What to Do If Someone Asks for Your Picture

Clear, calm advice for children about what to do if someone online asks them to share a photo of themselves.

You never have to send a photo — and it is never too late to tell a grown-up.

If someone online asks you to send a photo of yourself — especially if they want you to be alone in the photo, or to show your body — that is not okay. You do not have to send anything. This page explains what to do.

You Do Not Have to Send Anything

No matter who asks — a friend, someone you met in a game, or a stranger — you never have to send a photo if you do not want to. And you should never send a photo that shows your body without clothes, even if someone says it is just for fun or that everyone does it. That is not true.

What to Do Right Now

If someone is asking you for a photo and it does not feel right, stop talking to them. Do not send anything. Close the app or put down the device. Then find a grown-up you trust and tell them what happened. Show them the messages if you can. You will not be in trouble — the grown-up needs to know so they can help keep you safe.

If You Already Sent a Photo

If you already sent a photo and now you feel worried about it, please do not panic. It is still not your fault. Tell a grown-up straight away — they can help sort it out. In the UK, there are people whose job it is to get photos like this removed from the internet. The most important thing is to tell someone so they can help.

If you ever need someone to talk to, you can call Childline for free on 0800 1111.
