In plain English
The exploitation of people, including children, for forced labour, sexual exploitation, or criminal activity. Covered by the Modern Slavery Act 2015.
Why it matters
Children exploited through county lines, domestic servitude, or sexual exploitation may be identified as victims of modern slavery and supported through the National Referral Mechanism. Recognising it as exploitation, not offending, shapes the right response.
What to do
Parents and carers
If you suspect a child is being exploited, call the Modern Slavery Helpline on 08000 121 700 or report to police.
